THE WEEK THAT WAS
GERMANY - While it hasn't suffered attacks of the magnitude of Paris or Nice, in a flurry of small attacks last week - 3 in Bavaria and 1 in Baden-Wuerttemberg - at least one appears to have had some ISIS connection.
DAVID DUKE - Former Klu Klux Klan leader announced his candidacy for the US Senate...."where he will try to capitalize on his history of inflammatory speech and on the presidential campaign of Donald J. Trump" [NYT]
THE WEEK AHEAD
PHILADELPHIA - Democrats began arriving in Philadelphia over the weekend, and in the midst of a heatwave. There are already a lot of protesters in the streets, but so far, the protests have been reasonably peaceful. Last week's release of nearly 20,000 emails through Wikileaks prompted the resignation of Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz and has led to increased speculation that Russian intelligence groups are the source of the leaks and raised concerns that Vladimir Putin might be meddling in our presidential election.
HEARTBEATS AWAY - now that the VEEPSTAKES are over, Americans are beginning to examine the choices and decide who they feel is the most capable #2.
There may be dancing in the streets and lots of mojitos being consumed in Rio, but the Aussies and Swedes said "Thumbs down" about their Olympic Village accommodations and are sleeping elsewhere. Backed up toilets, water leaks, electrical outages and the Zika virus added up to another tough week in Rio.

NANTUCKET - 27 mi by ferry from Hyannis. High speed ferry takes an hour, the regular ferry takes about 2 1/4 hr.
WHERE TO STAY: Check out Trip Advisor, but my suggestions are The Wauwinet [details here] or The Wade Cottages [click here].
WHERE TO EAT: Black-Eyed Susan's for breakfast. Local fave: The Club Car. The Boarding House. There are lots of choices and it's fun to just wander and do some grazing.
If you're interested in visiting Nantucket (or Martha's Vineyard), plan your trip well in advance. If you wait until after Labor Day both will be considerably less crowded.
