About Our Fees and Account Minimums


We understand that fees can be an important consideration for some investors when choosing a financial advisor. For us, understanding who you are is of considerable importance. Why? Because they are interrelated.

First of all, our fees aren’t arbitrary. While some advisors utilize a boilerplate fee schedule, that type of grid is irrelevant for our purposes. That’s because you, not simply the magnitude of your financial assets, are an integral part of this equation.

At Altus, we consider what will be required of us to provide the level of service and management both you and your assets deserve. The financial lives of our clients vary in complexity. Some clients want or require more of our time than others. Our client contact is both as needed and scheduled. We don’t want you to wait until your quarterly or annual review to tell us what’s happening in your life. We are here to help you navigate change.

We base our fees on who you are, the nature of your assets, your individual needs, and our experience. 

What does that mean to you? From the get-go, you can expect thoughtful and skilled consideration of you and your assets, and abiding fairness from us. We can tell you this: as far as your fee is concerned, we have a track record of getting it right the first time.  But rest assured, were we to have misread the scope of our work or have overestimated the time you or your portfolio require, we’ll be the first to admit to it and adjust accordingly.  Prontísimo.


Minimum Balance Considerations:

Our practice is currently at a size that we believe is optimal to provide outstanding client service and account management and, equally important, is comfortably manageable for all of us. Consequently, we accept new clients each year on a selective, but limited basis.

Our minimum account requirement is $1 million in combined assets.  We do, however, reserve a percentage of our business for both pro-bono clients and those whose investable assets fall below our minimum but exceed $500,000.

Our overriding consideration in initiating any new relationship, regardless of its size, is whether or not we are a good match. Just as we can afford to be selective, so should you. After all, after their primary relationships, for many of our clients, we are next in line in terms of importance and support.

Should you wish to pursue becoming an Altus client, please be aware that we typically do not accept new clients in the final quarter of the year. Also, when we are at capacity for those accounts below our minimum, we maintain a Waiting List.
