LOOKING FORHAPPINESSIN ALL THE RIGHT PLACES

" Research shows smiling gives the brain as much pleasure as 2,000 bars of chocolate or $25,000."

Neuroscience Discovers 5 Things That Will Make You Happy

  • Listen To Music From The Happiest Time In Your Life  -  this is so true. When I was a kid, we drove from FL to CA for a swimming meet. I taught my sister how to play Zombie Jamboree on a baritone ukelele. Everytime I need a pick me up,  just thinking about 6,000 miles of that cracks me up.
  • Smile — And Wear Sunglasses - and isn't buying sunglasses, or just trying them on, lots of fun?  Check out OJO OPTIQUE in Nob Hill, or WARBY PARKER online.
  • Thinking About Goals Changes How You See The World - my short-term goal is to master something crazy I found online this mornning. More on that later. Go ahead - pick something. Anything. Learning to juggle. Mastering the great pie crust. Reorganizing your closet. Climbing Mt. Rainier. Planting flowers. Just do it.
  • Get Good Sleep - bad sleep can lead to depression. Conversely, good sleep can increase your happiness factor. Go catch some good zzzzz's.
  • How Neuroscience Beats Procrastination - Your brain isn’t one big ol’ lump of grey goo that’s perfectly organized. Far from it. Think of it a little more like a bunch of your relatives arguing at the dinner table during a holiday get together.

The brain is getting A LOT of ink these days - deservedly so. And this is a pretty accessible article. If you'd like to read it, CLICK HERE.

INTERNATIONALHAPPINESSDAY CHALLENGE

A week from today, people all over the world will be celebrating International Happiness Day. Just like  this year is the first time ever that you voted in School Board Elections (or will be breaking the ice with Ward and Precinct elections on Saturday, March 25th) , maybe this is your Maiden Voyage to commemorate IHD. Welcome Aboard! So how are you going to mark the day? Good question. You could adopt a pug. Pay forward a meal at your favorite restaurant and give someone a real lift. You could stand in Civic Plaza wearing  a FREE HUGS sandwich board. If I were in New York, I'd get myself to Papaya King tout de suite for a hotdog. But I'm not going to New York, so here's my plan - I going to master this:

THE DOG WHO WOULD BE KING

Found within the annals of Nordic history, three separate tales of canine kings emerge from Sweden, Norway and Denmark.

John Lindow, professor of Scandinavian at UC Berkeley, says the three stories share one common theme.
