PATHS TO HAPPINESS
THIS WEEK'S ROUTE: READING
For all avid readers who have been self-medicating with great books their entire lives, it comes as no surprise that reading books can be good for you. I thought we might dig little deeper into reading as a potential source of happiness and feed a lot of birds with one seed.
For example, who among you have ever heard the term "bibliotherapy?" There are times when a good book is the best medicine of all. Whether to support good mental health, treat depression or anxiety, or simply provide respite from "what's happening out there," bibliotherapy is the use of reading materials for help in solving personal problems or for psychiatric therapy.
Here are two articles you may find interesting:

I find I can always rely on the The New Yorker for an interesting read and remembered this article, also from a few years back [click here for link]. Actually, it was where I was introduced to The School of Life in London, an organization now with several global locations, that describes itself as follows:
"We address such issues as how to find fulfilling work, how to master the art of relationships, how to understand one’s past, how to achieve calm and how better to understand, and where necessary change, the world."
For my money, this week's "suggested route to Happiness" has all the makings of a great trip. Some may consider reading therapy as old news - I like to think of it as good news.

Good food leads to good health leads to.... a happier outlook? Or maybe you've been unhappy with what has been going on at the Coop this last year. Well, times have changed! Some major structural changes have occurred that may be of interest. Community input is important to a well-oiled La Montanita. Please consider attending the monthly meetings. But it is sort of a "pay-to-play" situation - you need to be a Member.
The first hour (5:30-6:30 pm) is our Community Education Series, during which co-op Board, staff, and member-owners explore a topic that relates to our role in the community. Questions? Contact us at TalkWithTheBoard@lamontanita.coop.
